AK! Rope is an energetic & exciting cardio and toning class focused on the jump rope. Expect to do classic jump roping, while also using the rope for strength and toning moves in between jumping.

The class dedicates four songs to actual jump roping. It doesn’t sound like much, but four songs are MORE than enough. It’s tough.
In between jump roping songs, you’ll use the rope and/or just bodyweight for various strength and toning exercises.
Follow along w/ the instructor!
Example class format: (i) warm up comprised of jumping rope and plank work, (ii) fold the rope in half and use it to do various arm and standing ab exercises, (iii) jump rope using fancy footwork, (iv) fold the rope in half again and do more arm work focusing on the triceps and chest/back, (v) jump rope for a full song nonstop (endurance round), (vi) use the rope for lower body exercises, (vii) plank series, (vii) jump rope using speed intervals, and (viii) stretch. Whew!

Assuming most ppl don’t jump rope all of the time, this class will push your body’s cardio endurance in a unique way.
Don’t sleep on the toning and strength portions of class - they were also difficult.
The jump rope footwork is not totally easy w/o practice. I had to stick w/ regular jumping for most of it bc I couldn’t catch on to the footwork right away.
It’s easy to get frustrated w/ jump roping if you keep tripping up, but just jump right back into it (pun intended) . Most ppl in class tripped up here and there.
You will be fatigued afterward! My muscles were very tired.

Amanda Kloots is a force in the fitness industry. She’s a former Radio City Rockette, but now has killed it w/ her own fitness empire that includes training celebs and her own branded fitness classes.
The class is located in the Energi studio space which hosts various events and group fitness classes. It’s a place where instructors can bring their own workouts.
There is a proper form for jump roping - shoulders down, arms in and flexed, and land w/ your entire foot, not just the balls of your feet.
No showers or locker rooms. Only cubbies.
Yeah, it was so fun and such a great workout.
