GRIT BXNG is a fast-paced full-body cardio/strength/boxing class that moves you around three stations: the treadmill, the floor (w/ weights), and the boxing bag.
Fitness clothes, sneakers, hand wraps (Grit sells for $8), & boxing gloves (Grit rents for $3).
When you sign up, you’ll choose to start on either the treads, the floor, or the bag. Most popular choice seems to be tread.
Class format: (i) 5 min warm up, (ii) 9 mins at each station (i.e. 9 mins on bag, then 9 mins on floor, then 9 mins on tread) for a total of 27 mins, (iii) 3 mins at each station (i.e. 3 mins on bag, 3 mins on floor, then 3 mins on tread) for a total of 9 mins, & (iv) short cooldown.
The instructor stands on a pedestal at the front center of the studio. When you’re on the bags, you’ll follow along to an instructional TV screen showing you the exercises and same for when you’re on the floor (similar to Rumble).
The instructor will shout out all of the commands for each station, including treads.
For the boxing portion, it’s less about the boxing technique, but more about constantly moving. There’s little instruction on proper form, so to get the most of of your workout, come in knowing something about boxing.
The floor section is challenging and you can make it more or less difficult with the heaviness of your dumbbells. Expect standard compound exercises using body weight and dumbbells.
The treadmill is difficult, but you can of course choose how much to push yourself.
You’ll never feel like you’re at a station too long, which makes the class fly by.
With three stations, you’re hardly being watched by the instructor. Easier to cheat, but less instructive. The instructor, more or less, stands on the stage calling out commands, hyping up the room, and dancing.
Sweat Level: 💧💧💧💧
First Timers: $36 for two classes, one guest pass, one gym bag, and two drink tickets.
Returners: $36 per class.
GRIT offers lots of packages that reduce the per class price and they also offer unlimited classes per week/month.
GRIT is trying to make a cult-like vibe a la Rumble and SoulCycle.
They have a full liquor bar in the lobby of the studio. Not sure this is necessary, but it IS interesting. GRIT seems to be trying to cultivate a “hang out” feel.
Awesome, loud music! There’s a large screen behind the instructor that displays visuals cued up with the music - lots of Pitbull music videos (he’s an investor).
Clublike atmosphere inside the studio.
Showers, locker rooms, and lockers w/ automatic locks located in their lower level.
GRIT provides reusable bags instead of disposable plastic baggies for sweaty clothes.
Lots going on here. Def a SCENE.
During class, one instructor made lots of “shout outs” to random people in the class that he knows...(a bit cringy).
A lot of focus on frills and not much about form.
Hard to get a true full body workout when you don’t spend a ton of time at each station. But this is a great option when you want a good sweat in a class that FLIES by.
They offer shots after class - whattttttt.
Yeah, when I want a fun, not-too-serious sweat.
