Hit House is a barefoot Muay Thai kickboxing studio in Nolita that tests your cardio endurance, conditioning skills, and mental attention.
Fitness clothes, bare feet (or socks), hand wraps, + gloves.
Hit House rents wraps and gloves for $2 each.
50 mins in total.
15 mins of cardio warm up and technique-teaching of punches (jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts), kicks (side, front), knees (side, front), and elbows.
35 mins of combos on the bishop (i.e. the bag) comprised of eight 3 min rounds.
Quick cool down/stretch.
Technique is tricky. If you’ve boxed before, the punches will be familiar. But to me, the kick and knee technique was a bit difficult at first. The instructors are great about correcting form.
Tests your endurance- you’ll be, more or less, moving (all limbs) for the entire class.
Requires attention and mental agility to remember combos and form.
Some of the combos and footwork can be awkward (and therefore frustrating) if you’re learning Muay Thai form for the first time, but keep on keeping on. Repetition helps.
No HIIT drills like burpees, push-ups, jump squats, etc.
Legs will be sore from kicking.
Sweat Level: 💧💧💧
First Timers: $20 per class.
Returners: Ranges from $23-$34 per class.
Hit House uses the Dibs booking system (like Kore). Dibs prices each class according to demand. “You get the best price by booking early and off-peak”.
Packages and memberships are available to lower the "per class" price.
Hit House offered personal training, as well.
Spacious studio in downstairs space.
Very clean and well designed.
Welcoming front desk and teachers, not intimidating.
We could tell the owners put thought into design and brand.
Up-to-date tech used.
A bishop is the punching bag you’ll punch and kick. It’s called a bishop bc it looks like the bishop chess piece.
Gorge locker rooms with 3 showers and plenty of products.
Automatic lockers in the lobby, but no lockers in the locker rooms.
If you’re in a rush to shower after class, take a risk and leave your bag in the locker room instead of in the lobby lockers.
Absolutely. Unique class that tests different muscles.
