Overthrow - Boxing Burnout



Overthrow’s Boxing Burnout class is a high intensity, partner-focused, sweaty boxing workout on and off the bag.

  • Classpass: ✅


  • Fitness clothes, sneakers, hand wraps (Overthrow sells for $10), boxing gloves (Overthrow provides for free).

  • 45 mins.

  • Typical class: (i) 7 min cardio warm up (high knees, mountain climbers, jumping jacks, etc.), (ii) 7 mins of shadowboxing (boxing off of the bag w/o gloves), (iii) 7 mins of partner work w/ gloves (you’ll do combos hitting your partners gloves) while the instructor comes around with mitts and you’ll do combos w/ him, (iv) 10 mins of combos on the bag while switching w/ your partner, (v) 7 mins of team bag work (e.g. 10 speed jabs, move to the next bag, so on and so forth, (vii) 5 mins of solo bag work, and (viii) 2 mins core/cooldown.


Hard AF?!

  • Yes, challenging!

  • Less about the boxing technique, more about constantly moving.

  • Since a lot of the work is with a partner, how hard you push is somewhat dependent on their skill level (which I personally, don’t love, bc part of me doesn’t hit as hard when working w/ a partner).

  • Cardio heavy.

  • Mentally challenging bc the instructor calls out the punch numbers (1= jab, 2=cross, 3= hook, 4, 5 = upper cuts) for the combos and doesn’t demo. You need to pay attention.

  • I wish there was more solo bag work, instead of partner work.

  • First Timers: $34 per class.

  • Returners: $34 per class.

  • Overthrow offers packages that reduce the per class price and they also offer unlimited classes per week/month.

  • Overthrow also offers donation-based classes the first Monday of the month at both locations.

  • Private training available.


  • Super cool “underground” graffiti vibes. You’ll feel like you’re in Fight Club.

  • There is a ring/floor on the main floor and the Underground studio is downstairs one flight.

  • Bare boned, but great decor.

  • No mirrors.

  • A little smelly bc not great ventilation.


Classified Information

  • For partner-work, try to partner w/ someone around your same level.

  • Locker rooms are one floor up.

  • Bring your own lock (no automatic locks), two showers.

  • Not many products besides shampoo, conditioner, body wash. Bring your own products.

  • Bathroom could be cleaner/bigger. It’s a tight squeeze.
